Dr Marina Hurley, founder and manager of Writing Clear Science, is a scientist with a background in freshwater ecology, forest ecology, entomology and insect-plant interactions. She is a member of Australian Scientific Communicators , ANZAAS, the Australian Ecological Society, and the Victorian Writers Centre. Marina has an exceptionally clear understanding of the process involved in report and thesis writing and has developed her unique approach of teaching science writing into the Writing Clear Science Writing Workshops.

Marina Hurley has a Bachelor of Science and a PhD in Zoology from James Cook University and has twenty years experience working in a diverse range of scientific fields including Agriculture, Entomology, Ecology, Botany, Zoology, Archaeology, Freshwater Ecology, Rainforest Ecology, Forestry and Farm Forestry.

Marina's passion for the rainforest lead her to bury herself in the undergrowth of the rainforests of the Atherton Tablelands in North Queensland for three years, where she researched and wrote her PhD on Stinging Trees (Dendrocnide). Marina's enthusiasm for teaching developed when employed as an entomologist and lecturer at the School of Agricultural Science at the University of Tasmania. More recently, Marina was involved in designing and implementing the National Farm Forestry Information Service FarmForestLine www.farmforestline.com.au in conjunction with Rowan Reid at Melbourne University.
