1. Website Use

Your use of our website or services is subject to Writing Clear Science’s Privacy Policy. This policy informs users of their rights with regard to data collection practices. Your agreement to Writing Clear Science’s Privacy Policy is hereby incorporated in Writing Clear Science’s Terms and Conditions. Your use of our website or services is also subject to Writing Clear Science’s Disclaimer (see below).

We reserve the right to withdraw or alter this website or any product or service provided through this website in our sole discretion, without notice. We will not be liable if any part of this website is unavailable for any period of time.

Permission is granted to download one copy of the materials on Writing Clear Science’s website for personal use only. This is a grant of a license, not a transfer of title, and under this license you may not:

modify or copy the materials
use the materials for any commercial purpose or for any public display (commercial or non-commercial)
remove any copyright or other proprietary notations from the materials or

2. Intellectual Property & Copyright

As a condition of using our website and engaging our services, you agree to use the resources provided by Writing Clear Science for private, educational or project development purposes only. This includes the use of our material to assist you to prepare, produce and publish scientific and other similar documents. The information we provide is not to be resold. Nor is this information to be re-taught without permission or acknowledgement.

The intellectual property of any information (verbal, printed or digital) provided by Writing Clear Science is solely owned by Dr Marina Hurley. The fees provided by any individual or organisation in payment for the provision of information, tuition, editing or advice by Writing Clear Science, do not include payment for the intellectual property or copyright of this material. When Writing Clear Science staff are engaged for their writing and research services, the copyright remains with the particular Writing Clear Science staff member(s).

You do not have permission to provide any material that you have purchased from us to other parties, including work colleagues and friends. If you wish to use our educational information for training purposes, you must request permission, upon which you will be provided with our Guidelines Governing use of Writing Clear Science for Training Purposes. Depending upon the nature of your teaching activities, charges may apply.

You agree to observe all copyright laws pertaining to educational information provided to you by Writing Clear Science.

3. Workshop attendance & educational material

The resources provided by Writing Clear Science during writing workshops are for private and educational purposes only. Lecture notes, worksheets and writing resources are provided for the sole use of the participants who attend our online or face-to-face workshops. Our fees do not include permission to reproduce this material in any form or to distribute this material to other parties. Our fees do not include permission to reproduce these resources or to distribute these resources to any other party either through printing, photocopy, scanning or electronic distribution, with the exception of worksheets which can be reproduced for personal use only.

Participants who purchase registration to an online course will receive a url link and password to access their own online course library. This library access cannot be provided to any other individual. Multiple logins from different IP addresses will be monitored and may result in denial of access to the course library.

If we are hosting a writing workshop at your institution or company, materials provided to participants during the workshop cannot be shared with other staff who did not attend this workshop.

The distribution of this material is strictly limited and may not be used for commercial purposes. This material cannot be used for teaching or reproduced in any form without prior permission from Writing Clear Science.

4. Writing Clear Science’s Refund Policy

Open Workshops (face-to-face workshops)

To attend an Open Workshop, payment must be received beforehand. Cancellation or postponement of Registration: Should you be unable to attend, please cancel as soon as possible. If you cancel up to 10 days prior to the workshop date, you can attend a later workshop at no extra charge. Alternatively, you can nominate someone else to take your place. This policy expires 12 months after registration.

Online Workshops

After the course opens, you can apply for a 90% refund if you are not satisfied with the course within 7 days after receiving the first module. This means that the refund period closes immediately prior to the release of the second module.

5. What is meant by ‘Lifetime’ membership of our online workshops

After the course is completed, all teaching material can be accessed within your own Writing Clear Science course library, including access to any course updates or additions. If the course is ever retired, all digital material will be released to you for download.

6. Our teaching and editing services

Writing Clear Science aims to provide the highest quality advice relevant to scientists, students and professionals. Writing Clear Science provides feedback on accuracy and clarity of writing, punctuation, logical development of ideas and concepts and the development of aims and objectives. The suggestions and advice given to Writing Clear Science clients and customers when teaching, editing or proofreading, are made to the best of our knowledge and to the highest ethical standards.

It must be clearly understood that any changes made to any documents submitted for editing and proofreading are suggestions only. Any suggestions, recommendations, comments or changes will be made in the form of handwritten notes on paper, from Microsoft Word’s track changes or verbally. The decision to accept any advice, changes or suggestions is the sole responsibility of the client.

Writing Clear Science takes no responsibility for any changes of content, intent, or misrepresentation of a fact, statement, theory or conclusion that may result from changes to the client’s text. When teaching, editing, proofreading and instructing clients, the intention of Writing Clear Science is not to take on the role of writer, ghost writer or co-writer. The copyright of all documents provided and written by the client remains with the client and Writing Clear Science expects no acknowledgement in published documents.

Where relevant, we strongly recommend that clients inform lecturers, supervisors, employers or employees that additional writing tuition, advice or editing services have been engaged.

Writing Clear Science will always respect the privacy and confidentiality of its clients and their documents and will sign an approved confidentiality agreement if required.

7. Writing Clear Science’s Disclaimer

This disclaimer informs users of Writing Clear Science’s limitations regarding the information provided on our website and through our newsletters and limitations regarding the teaching provided through our products and services. Your agreement to the Writing Clear Science’s Disclaimer is hereby incorporated in these Terms and Conditions.

Depending on the type of documents submitted, Writing Clear Science will maintain electronic archives of documents for backup purposes, but will take no responsibility for documents lost, damaged or corrupted. We will not be responsible for any disruption of service that occurs due to internet service provider-related problems or other factors outside of our immediate control.

Writing Clear Science maintains links to websites to assist those wishing to improve their writing and research skills. Writing Clear Science does not endorse the products, advertising or actions of any of these organisations. Writing Clear Science does not receive any remuneration for maintaining any links to any websites.

Writing Clear Science maintains security of the Writing Clear Science website including the use of SSL and firewall, antivirus, antispam and spyware protection. We continually update these software tools to provide the best possible protection and security of your personal information. However, we do not guarantee the security of the website, our records or your content. Writing Clear Science disclaims all liability for any computer virus or technological problems that we do not intentionally cause or that is beyond our control.

Writing Clear Science shall not be liable for any damages or loss, financial or otherwise, resulting from our services, and under no circumstances shall liability exceed the amount paid for our services. Writing Clear Science reserves the right to refuse service to anyone, at our discretion.
